Welcome to Thorvald!

Sometimes, the process of making a stop motion animated film is a bit like being locked in a deadly struggle with a fearsome sea serpent, only to look into its face and recognize yourself. This blog is for anyone who has battled a 12-inch tall monster of their own and discovered a worthy adversary and a beautiful friendship.

Pick-Ups and Post-Production

After many months of planning, shooting, and editing, The Green Wall is entering the final stages of production! This summer I was able to capture some exciting new footage (check out some snippets in my previous post http://thorvaldandthestoorworm.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/work-in-progress-small-preview-of-green.html).

It's coming together nicely, but I've decided to do some additional shooting to add more drama and a new dimension to the camera angles. The story of the Green Wall is told through the eyes of a girl who perceives her world in a mythic and whimsical way and I wanted the shooting style to reflect that.

I've just acquired a couple of drones and will be using them in the coming months to get some aerial shots here in Edinburgh. This is my first time working with drones and I am really looking forward to it! I will be sharing some pictures of the drones in action as well as samples of their footage, so keep watching this blog.

Work In Progress: A Small Preview of the Green Wall

I've cut together some snippets of footage and stills that I have been shooting for The Green Wall. The film is currently in production, being shot on location in Luxor, Egypt. The musical accompaniment was composed and performed by me.

Here is a little preview of what the live action sections of the film will look like:

The Green Wall Is Going Into Production!

Pre-production on The Green Wall is now officially complete!
Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the project. The funds have been put to good use and I have just returned to Luxor, Egypt to begin production.
Here’s a group of my Egyptian and British friends who will be helping me in my endeavours:

My focus for this film are Egyptian women artists, so I wanted to share this shot of two young Egyptian women finding inspiration in reconstructing an ancient monument.

I will be posting updates, photos and clips on the Green Wall's Facebook page and here on the production blog.
